Bodie Island Lighthouse, North Carolina

Bodie Island lighthouse, built in 1872, stands 165 feet tall.  It was automated in 1940.  Marked by the alternating black and white bands, it's one of the lighthouses of the Outer Banks.

Bolivar Point Lighthouse, Texas

This historic lighthouse was first proposed by the Republic of Texas, but finished in 1851 after Texas joined the Union.  It was located on the eastern part of Galveston Island, and away from other places.

It served as a shelter for 120 people during the Galveston Hurricane of 1900; and was accidentally damaged due to target practice from a shore battery in 1917.  

It was retired from service in 1930.

Colchester Reef Lighthouse, Vermont

This lighthouse is located on Lake Champlain in Vermont.  It entered service in 1871; and was decommissioned in 1933.

New Basin Canal Lighthouse, New Orleans

The New Basin Canal Lighthouse was built in 1838 where the New Basin Canal joined Lake Ponchartrain.  It was destroyed by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, but rebuilt in 2013.

Cape Flattery Lighthouse, Washington

This lighthouse is on Tatoosh Island at the beginning of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Neah Bay.  It was built in 1854.  This is a common sight from vessels traveling from or to Seattle and Tacoma.
