This lighthouse, located on the southernmost point of Alabama, was originally built in 1838. It was first lit in 1871, automated in 1921, and decommissioned in 1933. It stands out!
Because Point Reyes is the windiest place on the Pacific Coast and very foggy, a lighthouse was strongly needed to safeguard ships entering or leaving Francisco Bay. This lighthouse was built in 1870 and was retired from service in 1975 when the U.S. Coast Guard installed an automated light. The lighthouse currently is owned by the National Park Service. The Point itself has terrific scenery.
