Point Reyes Lighthouse, California
Because Point Reyes is the windiest place on the Pacific Coast and very foggy, a lighthouse was strongly needed to safeguard ships entering or leaving Francisco Bay. This lighthouse was built in 1870 and was retired from service in 1975 when the U.S. Coast Guard installed an automated light. The lighthouse currently is owned by the National Park Service. The Point itself has terrific scenery.
